Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q Why should I buy the Optica XT over the competition's product?

A The Optica XT uses the latest thulium fiber laser technology to deliver a more efficient laser at a very competitive price. Convergent has been a market leader in stone and soft tissue laser systems since 1995; we have proven our capability to design, manufacture, and support our laser systems.

Q What features set the Optica XT apart from its competition?

A The Optica XT offers compact and efficient design, ease-of-use, and top-quality fiber-optics.

Q I'm under the impression that lasers are difficult and expensive to maintain. How reliable is the Optica XT laser?

A The Optica XT was designed for reliability and serviceability. Under normal operating conditions, the laser should last many years with minimal service needs. However, we do recommend a preventive maintenance check-up at 12 month intervals depending on the operating environment and frequency of use.

Q  If I'm planning to use the Optica XT in an office-based environment, do I need any special personnel to operate and maintain the Optica XT? What if the laser system stops working?

A Convergent provides in-service training with each new Optica XT laser system purchase. The in-service training is designed to provide adequate information to each participant. After completion of the training program, each participant will be familiar with basic troubleshooting procedures and be able to comfortably operate the laser system. Additionally, the Optica XT performs self-diagnostics and will inform the operator when it detects any condition that is out of the ordinary. The Optica XT comes with a one-year parts and labor warranty. Extended warranties are available.

Q Is the Optica XT available for sale outside of the U.S.?

A Please contact our sales department at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Q Do I need any special electrical utilities to operate the Optica XT laser?

A The Optica XT can operate from a U.S. standard 110 - 240 VAC, 15 - 7.5 A, 50/60Hz.

Odyssey 30

The Odyssey is the ideal laser system for endourologists. The laser's 2100 nm infrared output can disintegrate stones and ablate tissue with minimal lateral tissue damage. An endourologist can choose from a wide range of fiber sizes to operate throughout the urinary tract. Larger core fibers can be used with rigid endoscopes to reach the ureter and the bladder. Smaller core fibers can be used with flexible ureteroscopes to reach the lower pole of the kidney.

T-1470 ProTouch

The ProTouch is the first 1470 nm laser system designed specifically for treating BPH. Its 1470 nm wavelength is highly absorbed by both water and hemoglobin making it ideal for ablating soft tissue. As the laser energy ablates tissue, it simultaneously seals off the blood vessels to minimize bleeding. In contrast to KTP lasers, the ProTouch's patented fiber tip protection system allows the surgeon to operate in contact mode, which provides the tactile feel of a scalpel or electrode loop without destroying the fiber.

T-1470 LiteTouch

The T-1470 LiteTouch is a portable diode laser system for ENT and aesthetic applications including nasal and laryngeal polyps, endoscopic sinus surgery, papillomatosis, and lipolysis. Its 1470 nm wavelength is highly absorbed by both water and hemoglobin making it ideal for ablating soft tissue. As the laser energy ablates tissue, it simultaneously seals off the blood vessels to minimize bleeding.

Fibers

Convergent has been a leading provider of high quality holmium laser fibers since 1994. All our fiberoptic delivery systems use the most durable, flexible fibers available.
